clink clink
A crucifix dangled over the bed, and she grabbed it off the wall and held it in front of her. Had it not been known to destroy demons and vampires? She moved on, still slow and cautious. Kitchen door...open, sound gets louder. Lights on, nothing. At least, nothing out of the ordinary. Even more carefully, she shut the door and moved on. There was only the sitting room left now. Walking further down the hall, she heard the sound get even louder. She started to run through the possibilities again. If she she'd let Ogonna come spend her holidays with her like the young girl had pleaded...why had she asked her to stay home and take care of Mum? If only she'd been a decent, obedient girl and continued living with her parents until she met Mr. Right. Hadn't Anna, her closet friend asked her over for the weekend? Now her love for solitude would be her undoing. She could already hear the exclamations her mother's friends would make. Such a stubborn child had surely asked for trouble, living on her own like that.

Refusing the hand of that well-to-do chief, saying he was too old. How could a man ever be too old for a woman? This was why parents should bring up their children close to them, rather than send them abroad to imbibe these foreign cultures. Catching sight of herself in the full-length hall mirror, she realized how dramatic she looked. Her hair tied up in a scarf, an XXL  T-shirt hanging down to her spindly legs, eyes bulging with fear, bat held high in a sweaty hand and crucifix in the other, with sweat pouring down her face, shirt clinging to her wet body. The burglar or ghost or whatever would probably laugh at her rather than run away in fright. She almost smiled at this thought, but at that very moment, the clink-clink sound was accompanied by a rustling sound that froze the blood in her veins. It took all her courage, strength and willpower to move her feet in the direction of the doorway. The poor lighting did not help matters as she'd left only the light down the hall on, in case she had to go to the bathroom.

Adaobi finally peeked into the sitting room and almost stopped breathing. The wind was swirling through the room and papers flying everywhere way. The wind swept the scarf off her head, freeing her hair to whip around her eyes. Using one hand to smooth back the hair, she felt a jolt-like electric current run up her spine. The eerie moonlight barely allowed her to see what lay before her. She flicked the light switch on, stared and fell to her knees, collapsing into convulsive, uncontrollable laughter. Laughter at her own silliness. For there, in front of her was the door she'd forgotten to lock behind her, thrown wide open by the wind. On the glass table in the center of the room lay her earrings, necklace and bracelet that she'd carelessly dropped on her entry from work, clink-clinking against the table. She'd nearly had a heart attack due to her own carelessness!

The-clink-clink
Adaobi turned out the lights, leaving her bedroom in the dull glow of her bedside lamp. Stifling a yawn with the back of her left hand, she pulled the curtains aside to let in cool breeze and the ghostly light of the moon. She turned away from the window to undress. Taking off her work clothes, she put on her nightsirt. She'd long ago decided to leave s*xy  nightdresses alone and stick to her old T-shirt. Elton John's  'Blue Eyes' wafted from the speakers of her CD Player. She loved listening to him before bed; his mournful tones had a calming effect on her senses. Easing into bed, she picked up a literary novel called Sunset that she'd been reading for months.

The plot was so slow it seemed inhuman to rush it. For her, it was like a daily tonic; one page every night to tire out her eyes, and one every morning to rejuvenate them. She wanted it to go on and on. Finally turning out the light, she reached down to the CD Player to switch it off, knowing that she'd never fall asleep with it on. She pulled the blanket over head and then she heard.......... What 'it' was, she couldn't say. Just some unusual sound somewhere in the house. She could feel the hair on the back of her neck stand on end, and goose bumps cover the skin of her arms. A light sheen of perspiration covered her face, and her hands grew clammy. Taking a deep breath, she trued to calm herself.

She probably wouldn't hear it again. But there it was again this time more distinct perhaps, because she'd been listening for it. A slight clink of mental against glass - eerie and almost unreal. One moment it was there, then it seemed to fade away as though she'd never heard it A zillion possibilities raced through her mind. It could be a burglar who had managed to discover that she'd been paid that day and hadn't time to go to the bank. Or maybe a tip-off from a jealous colleague had helped. She'd never believed in the existence of ghosts, werewolves and vampires, and now she wished she could remember why she hadn't. First things first, she thought.... stat calm and then investigate. The clink-clink sound was now really loud and clear.

Ghostly silence, then clink-clink again. She took one foot off the bed, then the other....calm, steady, quite as a mouse. Hands reaching under the bed for the baseball bat she'd always kept there as a precaution, not that she'd never seriously felt she'd need it. Still calming herself, she tiptoed to her door and opened it slightly. The sound remained distinct, refusing to go away. Padding about barefoot, bat clutched painfully in both hands, she moved through the house in search of the sound's source. Clink-clink...clink-clink. The door next to hers led to the bathroom, then the toilet. Open, close. No sound, no intruder. Onwards to the spare bathroom... door opens slowly. She hadn't been to this room for so long that she'd forgotten just how pretty it was. Pink walls, cream curtains and satin sheets. A cream rug covered the floor and a little water-color painting hung by the window.

stalker - determinant board
It was a hot Friday afternoon and I was in my car waiting for my sister when I got really bored so I decided to do something stup*d. The opportunity did not come for a while, so I stayed in my car gloating over an article in a mag I had read a million times. After a while, I caught sight of a very fine boy and I kept on looking at him, I didn't care if he noticed but I didn't realize the mistake I made til he came up to me. We started talking and I found him to be a very boring person. I was begging myself to end the conversation until finally he stopped because I told him my sister had come. He said he would love to see me again but I didn't - in fact I never wanted to see him again. One day, my friends and I were talking about celebrity stalkers and how sickening it could be,  we all laughed at the possibility of being stalked to death till someone came to tell me there was someone waiting  for me outside. I excused myself and went only to see that boring boy. He told me how he got to know about my whereabouts which I found scary! I tried  to talk him into forgetting we ever met but he kept on saying he needed to see me everyday. He asked me for my number and I said a big NO!  He was a still begging me when I walked out on him.

I thought I had finished with him but the next day as I was about to sleep, I received a phone call from HIM! I asked him how he got my number, I didn't realize I was shouting, all he kept saying was he was so happy to hear my voice and I got so frustrated that I dropped the phone on him. The next day, I was walking to my class when I noticed someone was behind me, I thought it was a casual passerby but when I turned to look I found out it was HIM! He looked at me and gave an evil smile, I started walking faster till I got to my class. I told my parents and sisters about it, they were all laughing! My sisters said I was the one who caused it and so I should be the one to end it. In the night I  kept repeating to myself "this must end". Anytime I left a lecture to go for another one, this same guy would follow me, I would just walk faster repeating to myself "he is not a stalker, he is not a stalker". It got to a point where I got so frustrated and approached him and shouted "Why are you stalking me?" He just smiled and didn't answer. I was so afraid, I didn't know what to do again, I knew from then on it was a stalking situation and I had to stop it.

I started praying about it and told my friends about it, they said they would help, so we cooked up a plan. On the planned day, we caught sight of my stalker as usual and my friends who were really huge boys threatened him, telling him he should never try stalking me again. The boy was just asking why and giving stupid reasons for stalking me. The argument got so fierce that my friends beat him up really badly and he was hospitalized. My friends felt bad about it, I did too but I was really glad the stalking days were. Ten years passed and I was working in a business firm but I was a very lonely person. No one wanted to date me because they found me very boring. I thought I would never get married 'till one day I met the man of my dreams. He was not really attractive and he had this huge scar on his face but was nice, sweet and so caring. After a while we got married.

One day, my husband and I went to his parents house, my husband was talking to his parents and some other people so I decided to tour the house. I got to this room that had a rusty lock where curiosity got the better of me, so I pushed the door open. I saw that it was a dusty room with a small bed and a small desk. I walked to the desk and to my amazement I saw pictures of ME and notes say "Lillian and I together forever ". I was so scared, I felt like my past was catching up with me. I turned to leave blocking it from my mind that it was my husband that was my stalker, and there he was: my husband, my stalker............ And he smiled.
