Most of the leaders in the world are more concerned about looting the country’s funds and building empires for themselves. They do not care about the poor neither do they think about their subjects who voted them in. Most of these leaders only have their own interests and that of their families at heart. They enjoy being treated as first class citizens and do not joke with the luxuries their positions offer them.

Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica

Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica Cordano is a highly respected man in Uruguay. He is said to be the world’s poorest president as he served his country between 2010 and 2015 as the fortieth president of Uruguay. What made Mujica different and unique when compared to the other presidents that have served was his act of benevolence. His austerity made people refer to him as the world’s poorest president. He chose to live on a farm despite having access to the presidential mansion. He decided to live in a simple house located in a rural area outside Montevideo.

The lifestyle of Mujica is an interesting one as he prefers to live simply despite being paid an amount equivalent to twelve thousand US dollars per month. The intriguing part of this is that about ninety percent of his earning goes to the poor and small-scale entrepreneurs. After giving out ninety percent of his salary, Mujica is left with an amount that is equivalent to an average Uruguay’s earning per month. Despite his act of charity, he does not feel poor and enjoys his life on the farm.

It is quite possible for Mujica to embrace this life of solitude due to the time he spent in jail. His past revealed that he was the former leader of some guerilla group called Tupemaros. This group was a violent one that used a Robin Hood-like strategy to fight for the poor. Fourteen years in confinement remolded him and changed his way of life.

His political views are unsettling considering the fact that he supports the same-sex marriage, abortion rights and the legalization of marijuana. While assessing his way of life and the things he does, people feel he does not act like a president but he is no doubt someone the poor relates with.

He has lived like that all his life and is happy with what he has. His perspective about his life is an interesting one.

bomb

AT LEAST 3 people were wiped out and another 120 wounded today in an automobile bomb attack over a police head office in eastern Turkey, an area security source said.

The explosion, blamed on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), happened in the garden of the four-storey building in Elazig, a conservative non-Kurdish province which had been spared much of the violence stemming from the conflict between Turkey and Kurdish militants.

I saw some young guy hand her a cigarette and she took at least one hit. She had it in her hand for about one minute, then gave it back to him.”

The allegations were supported by the 9-second footage showing Malia inhaling from the rolled up cigarette in the background.

The teenager, who has reportedly suffered from asthma, has been immediately criticized by thousands of people.

Marijuana was recently decriminalized in the state of Illinois, where the controversial situation occurred. Recall that President Barack Obama has previously confessed to experimenting with marijuana in youth and had warned his two daughters about its effects on health.

Earlier this year Malia also caused controversy after she was spotted caught drinking alcohol at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Uganda's Police raided a night club where a Gay Pride event was underway and arrested at least 15 people, accusing them of staging an illegal gathering and promoting homosexuality, a rights activist told Reuters on Friday.

Gays and lesbians experience considerable hostility in the largely conservative east African country, one of 37 countries on the continent where homosexuality is illegal.

They often live secretive lives, fearful that coming out will attract stigma and hostility from family and friends, or the loss of a job or an apartment.

Clare Byaruhanga, a gay rights activist, told Reuters Police showed up at a club in a suburb of the capital Kampala at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and accused the organisers of promoting homosexuality, before scuffles with revellers started.

"They (Police) were dragging people, they were beating people, they were undressing people," Byaruhanga said. "They were undressing especially trans-gender women. Apparently they wanted to find out whether they were men or women."

Kayima Emilian, a police spokesman, said they had dispersed the gathering because the organisers had failed to notify them of the event.

"A large group of people gathering? They need to tell Police. But also they were likely to engage in promoting gay sex which is illegal in Uganda."

Uganda triggered widespread western criticism after it enacted a harsh anti-gay law that handed out life sentences for some homosexual offences.

A constitutional court later overturned the law because of legal technicalities.

Despite threats by some lawmakers that the bill would be re-introduced in parliament, that has not happened and analysts say it would be unlikely to succeed in the face of strong pressure from Western donors.

Police arrested at least 15 participants in Thursday's incident and took them to a nearby police station where they spent about two hours before they were all released without recording a statement or being charged with any offences.

At the station, Byaruhanga said security personnel taunted the homosexuals, took their pictures without their permission and tried to touch them to "ascertain especially for trans gender individuals whether they were women or men.""It was a very, very degrading process," she said.

Uganda Police have raided similar events before with officials accusing organisers of assembling illegally and promoting gay lifestyle in Uganda.

Byaruhanga said the club event, where a Mr. and Ms. Pride was to be selected was a precursor to a Gay Pride march planned for Saturday in Kampala.

The Marine Bridge Road (Inward Ijora), Apapa area of Lagos State has been shut by the state Government as repair is set to commence.

According to a report by PM News, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Dayo Mobereola announced the closure of the Bridge Road on Friday, August 5, 2016 in preparation to the commencement of repair works.

“While the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing has assured of immediate action towards repairing the bridge as it may deem fit, the Lagos State Government is committed to putting in place effective traffic management strategies that will mitigate the impact of the closure,” Dr. Mobereola said in a statement.

The repair work, which would be carried out by contractors of the Federal Ministry of Works, will see traffic coming from Wharf Base/Point Road being diverted at service Lane (Marine Beach Road) by Leventis Junction to link Lilly Pond by Dockyard and ascend Ijora Bridge to continue their journey.

Furthermore, Mobereola noted that motorists traveling to Ajegunle should take a left turn at the second junction under the Apapa Road Bridge to Marine Beach junction inward Ajegunle or back to Ijora bridge and continue their journey.

“The state government has among other initiatives deployed various signages directing traffic appropriately. It is equally important to ask motorist to please obey personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria police and other law enforcement agencies deployed to control and manage traffic in the area. This is in our collective interest,” Mobereola further said in his statement.

Meanwhile, the government warned that the alternative route options were not to be used by heavy duty vehicles till the completion of the repairs.
